Service Description

Join textile artist Kayleigh Davis from ocre natural dye studio for a day workshop exploring the world of plant-based pigments. You will be taken on a guided foraging walk to learn how to identify local dye plants and also which colours they yield on textiles. Then back at the studio, you'll be guided through a variety of techniques to embed botanical imprints and hues onto silk to create a hanging textile piece of your own using a range of grown and foraged dye plants. You will learn how to embed botanical hues into silk creatively by bundling, dipping, sprinkling and painting with them, before processing your fabric in a dye pot. Once you have unwrapped your bundle to reveal your botanical print, you will be shown how to assemble your finished textile into an embroidery hoop to hang with a silk ribbon. All levels of experience are welcome. You do not need to bring anything with you as all materials will be provided at the session. This workshop will include refreshments and a break for lunch so please feel free to bring a packed lunch with you or alternatively you will be able to nip out to find lunch on the nearby high street. About Kayleigh Davis: Kayleigh Davis is a Yorkshire based textile artist, workshop facilitator and educator whose practice focuses on naturally dyed silks. Immersed in nature from a young age, her work seeks to explore the impermanence and fragility of the natural world throughout the seasons by embedding foraged and grown pigments and prints into cloth. Her process is intrinsically meditative as she forages for seasonal botany around local woodlands and grows her own dye plants in a dedicated colour garden. The plants embedded into her works are selected intuitively, often qualifying due to their ability, through form or colour to spark joy. If you have any questions about the course, please contact Kayleigh directly on: kayleighlouisedavis@gmail.com https://www.kayleighdavisart.com
